Democracy is nothing more than the political manifestation of the human spirit .... From today’s perspective, I see how the citizens of Germany were mistaken in their beliefs that man could be cultured whilst remaining politically ignorant. Thomas Mann 1939

The „International Foundation for Culture and Civilization“, Munich, was founded in May 1995 by Erich Fischer and ratified by the Bavarian Government as a non-profit organisation.

The most important aims of the foundation are:

The advancement of culture by sponsoring performances of lesser-known compositions of all eras and the staging of dramatic works by neglected authors, such as Rolf Hochhuth for example; The establishment and support of memorial sites dedicated to Richard Wagner, Thomas Mann and Frederic Chopin etc.; The inculcation of a deeper understanding of arts and artists, especially in the field of music.

The advancement of civilization, especially through the improvement and support of the rights of each individual to express his opinion publicly; Equality between women and men; Encouragement of tolerance and understanding between peoples and nations; Support of a free, democratic an judicial society as well as general and professional education; The development of a more humane criminal justice system („Amnesty National“).

Improvement of the quality of life for the older members of society; Care of the needy as well as physically and mentally disadvantaged persons.

The full text of the foundation’s charter, as well as additional information, are available on request.

The founder, Erich Fischer, was born in Eastern Germany (Sudetenland) in 1938. After some years as a Motorola employee, he founded the company EBV/München in 1969 which rapidly grew into a sizable European-wide distributor organization for Motorola, TI and other world renowned semiconductor manufacturers. As part of his „social utopia“, he transferred one-third of his EBV shares to 131 long-term employees and onethird to the „International Foundation for Culture and Civilization“, respectively.

Another of Erich Fischer’s utopian ideas is to promote a series of „Musical Afternoos“ during which senior citizens, as well as children, can enjoy live classical music and hospitality within a picturesque environment. The enthusiastic reactions to the first concerts make it highly desirable to extend this project world wide. Any help, or collaboration in this respect is welcomed.
